1,500 Ukrainians joined the educational project on learning the Ukrainian language

1,500 Ukrainians joined the educational project on learning the Ukrainian language

Now, many Ukrainians who have been Russian-speaking all their lives are switching to Ukrainian - we have been observing such trends for the past nine years, but they became especially active after the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. In 2022, the Vadym Stolar Charitable Foundation launched a free educational project on studying the Ukrainian language. In 9 months, he attracted more than 1500 participants.

Ukrainians strive to master the language

The trend towards fluency and fluency in the Ukrainian language has intensified since February 2022 and is still relevant. According to May polls, 61% of Ukrainians communicate in Ukrainian all the time, and 37% are purely Russian-speaking (another 2% speak other languages).

These numbers are really impressive, because even at the beginning of 2022, 56% of survey participants declared that they spoke Russian, while 43% of respondents called themselves Ukrainian speakers.

At the same time, many of those Ukrainians who now want to switch to nightingale, admit that they lack the knowledge and skills to freely communicate with it on a daily basis. People are afraid to make mistakes, to appear illiterate, and this often becomes an obstacle for a full-fledged transition to Ukrainian in all spheres of life.

That's when native language courses, such as an educational project from the Vadym Stolar Foundation, come to the rescue.

Vadym Stolar emphasizes the importance of supporting people's aspirations to master Ukrainian

"The idea of our educational project is to help people who want to switch to Ukrainian, but have certain difficulties with it. The Foundation and I always respond to citizens' requests, regardless of whether it is about the need for transport for the military or for products for civilians. And this global public need to master Ukrainian was no exception. So the volunteers offered to make an online course on the Ukrainian language, so that everyone willing could improve their own skills. And now Ukrainians from all over the world can join this project in order to learn or improve their native language," explained Vadym Stolar.

Volunteers of the Vadym Stolar Foundation talked about the details of the organization of the educational course

"When planning the future project, we assumed that it would first of all be aimed at those Ukrainians who want to master Ukrainian, switch to it in everyday communication, but do not have enough practice due to fear of mistakes and reluctance to speak in Surzhy. First, video lessons were launched three times a week - in the format of short and easy-to-understand videos. Then a Telegram chat was added to the project, where teachers began to publish useful tips and homework. There is also communication between teachers and students," said Natalia Prykhodko, a volunteer of the Vadym Stolar Foundation.

She added that after nine months of operation of the educational project, it not only has not lost its relevance, but on the contrary, it is in even greater demand.

"Our language course has been operating since September 2022, and if in the first six months approximately 700 participants joined it, then according to the results of nine months - already 1,500! That is, over the past three months, about 800 Ukrainians have started to improve their Ukrainian with our project. Such numbers are impressive and inspire to continue and expand activities in this educational direction," noted Nataliya Prykhodko.
