Mom, I love you to the stars and back

She wakes up before everyone else to make sure delicious syrnyky are ready for breakfast. She always knows where her daughter’s favorite T-shirt is hidden and where her son’s green socks disappeared to. She always has the right words to make the morning brighter and give confidence for the day ahead.

She radiates so much warmth and love that sometimes it feels like she could warm the whole world. At the same time, she inspires with her strength and resilience.

Today, the heart of a Ukrainian mother trembles with every message on her phone — from a son or daughter at war. Her heart stays with her dearest one in captivity, or is torn in half by heartbreaking news. Ukrainian mothers are now caring for grandchildren whose parents are defending the country. They nurture and protect children, often carrying the weight of both parents when war has taken one away.

Perhaps we do not always say it out loud. Perhaps we do not always notice the small daily miracles and quiet acts of heroism born from a mother’s love — until they become treasured memories.
