Today, October 1, Ukrainians mark three important occasions: Defenders of Ukraine Day, Ukrainian Cossacks Day, and the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom the Cossacks regarded as their patroness.
These dates are united by a common idea — protecting our homeland, the freedom and independence of the Ukrainian people, and their right to live freely in their own country. Ukrainians have fought for these values throughout different periods of history, and today our brave warriors continue to defend them on the front lines.
We thank every man and woman defending Ukraine today — for your courage, resilience, devotion to our people, and your daily heroism. It is thanks to you, our respected defenders, that Ukraine continues to stand and that we are able to keep living in our own country.
Our deepest respect and gratitude to all our defenders.
Eternal memory to those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
