Today, May 16, the third Thursday of the month, Ukrainians celebrate Vyshyvanka Day. And the streets of Ukrainian cities and towns are already filled with festively dressed people hurrying about their business. This is how Ukrainians, dressed in embroidered shirts, honor the traditions of our people.

Vyshyvanka is an important element of Ukrainian national clothing and our cultural heritage. It personifies the national identity, the customs of Ukrainians, the connection between the past and the future. The embroidery symbolizes national pride and our unity, which is especially important in times of ongoing full-scale war.

Next Saturday, we will talk about the history of embroidery and the customs associated with it.

Vyshyvanka Day is a relatively new holiday that began its countdown in 2006 from the walls of the Yuri Fedkovich Chernivtsi National University. The idea of the action was proposed by one of the students of the educational institution. Several dozen representatives of the student community and some teachers joined her. Every year, the number of participants in the action increased, and later the holiday became nationwide. Of course, he was supported by the Ukrainian diaspora.
