Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Kateryna Hudyk from Henichesk, who shares her memories for "History of the Strong", was awakened by a banging at the door. Then the neighbor brought the terrible news about the beginning of the war. "At first I didn't understand anything. Then I understood, but I didn't believe it, I started to calm down my neighbor," the woman recalls.
"When I went out on the balcony, I saw a bright shout from Chongar and heard muffled explosions. All the neighbors ran to the balconies, they called their relatives and almost shouted in one voice: "War, war, the war has begun! What to do, what to do? "
Kateryna had two daughters, so she quickly pulled herself together and, after consulting with her husband, started packing.
"In the afternoon, cars with armed Russian soldiers in balaclavas began to actively enter the territory of the school, where our apartment building is also located. There were a lot of them! The occupiers set up their headquarters in the educational institution, and in its basement - a torture chamber!. ."
"Whoever went to cooperate with them - condescension to those who tried to express their patriotic position - to the basement. It was scary to live, it was scary to say something, it was scary to even look in their direction," the woman says.
